About Ammar Adnan
Ammar Adnan is the Vice President of the Ishtar Center for Democracy Support and its Director of Administration. He holds a BSc in electrical engineering from the University of Kufa, and works as a technical and safety manager at the United National Company for Oil Services (UNOS).
His journey with Ishtar began in 2016, among a group of young people who believed that change starts with taking part in decision-making. From that conviction, they worked to build bridges of dialogue between young people and local decision-makers in Najaf, through discussion sessions that encouraged youth to engage in public affairs and contribute to positive change.
At the center, he is responsible for institutional administration, project development, and partner relations, in addition to overseeing the events and public dialogues the center delivers. He also contributes to preparing proposals, budgets, and implementation plans, with a focus on initiatives that strengthen civic participation, empower young people, and support constructive dialogue between different parties.
One of the highlights of his journey with the center is the Baghdad Forum for Young Leaders: over two editions, it brought together more than 200 young men and women from across Iraq's governorates, with the participation of international figures and organizations alongside the embassies of the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany in Baghdad — an influential space for dialogue and relationship-building between youth and decision-makers.
I believe democracy is not a political event, but a culture built every day through dialogue and participation. It is not enough to demand change — we must be part of making it.
