On January 30, 2023, a workshop was held at Ishtar Center for Democracy Support at its headquarters in the capital, Baghdad, on (the project to amend the Provincial Council Elections Law), in which it hosted:
– Muthanna al-Samarrai, head of Al-Azm Alliance
– Dr. Khaled Al-Obeidi, head of the political assembly of Al-Azm Alliance
– Representative Dr. Firas Al-Maslamawi for Karbala Governorate
– Electoral expert Miqdad Al-Sharifi
– Electoral expert Ayar Al-Halfi
The session was moderated by Dr. Alaa Mustafa, a member of Ishtar Center board of directors, in the presence of a number of researchers, academics, heads of active civil movements and institutions, the following topics were discussed:
1- Candidate conditions and the possibility of reducing the candidacy age to 25 years
2- Voting procedures and the polling, counting and sorting mechanism
3- The method of electing the governor
4- The electoral spending mechanism and the possibility of achieving justice in the competition
5- The electoral system and mechanisms for distributing seats according to the number of votes
