About Lawan Othman
Lawan Othman is a political researcher active in media, journalism, and opinion leadership, with a bachelor's degree in political science from the Department of Politics and International Relations. He joined the Ishtar Center in 2021, where his work focuses, on the theoretical level, on bringing Kurdish cultural, political, media, and institutional circles closer to their counterparts across the rest of Iraq.
On the practical level, he builds bridges between these circles in service of the center's strategic goals, and supplies the center with insights, ideas, and briefings on the Kurdistan Region — shedding light on its less visible angles through a comparative approach between the region and Iraq's other governorates. This approach aims to deepen the understanding of the region's political and social environment, and to open a wider window onto the major dilemmas and crises facing Iraq as a whole, by reading the region's particularity within the broader Iraqi context.
Over his five years with the center, he has represented it at a wide range of forums and occasions, carrying its message through his media work — bearing its name and defending its convictions — to help entrench the values the center believes in and works to uphold.
The center is like me: youthful in spirit, without ever losing sight of wisdom and deliberation.
