Baghdad Forum 2 (Next Generation in Iraq)

Baghdad Forum 2 The Next Generation in Iraq Ishtar Center for Democracy Support British Council On 1 October 2025, Ishtar Center for Democracy Support, in partnership with the British Council, organized Baghdad Forum 2 under the title “The Next Generation in Iraq”, held at the Nitaj Hall in Baghdad. This program builds upon the outcomes of the Baghdad Forum for Young Leaders, previously organized by the Center on 3 July 2024. The program included the following segments: 1. Opening Remarks: Mohammed Elwia– President of the Ishtar Center for Democracy Support Richard Sunderland – Regional Director of the British Council 2. Presentation: A presentation on the “Next Generation Iraq Studies” conducted by the British Council in collaboration with local partners, delivered by: Salman Turki – Youth Programs Manager, British Council 3. Panel Discussion: Title: “Youth Opportunities and Pathways in Employment, Education, and Political Participation” Speakers: Qasim Al-Dhalimy– Advisor to the Prime Minister for Youth Affairs Noor Qais – Professor of Political Science, Al-Nahrain University Mohammed Balisani – Founder of Nahda Investment Development Company Moderator: Adnan Charakh – Advisory Council Member, Next Generation Program with the British Council The forum discussed the findings of the Next Generation research related to youth that conducted by the British Council, and explored ways to respond to their aspirations and challenges in education, the economy, and the labor market. It also examined opportunities to strengthen dialogue between youth, decision-makers, and international institutions, and to build partnerships. The role of youth in elections and the development of their political participation was also highlighted. The event was attended by leaders of relevant government institutions, young leaders, and representatives of civil society organizations.
