Ishtar center for democracy support held in Najaf 17-2-2023 provincial elections conference
The first platform: the civil society platform
Speakers:
- Sajjad Salem – Independent Iraqi Parliament representative.
- Serbest Mustafa – Former President of the High Electoral Commission and President of Step Organization for elections in Dohuk.
- Hussein Al-Najjar – Member of the Political Bureau of the Iraqi Communist Party.
- Wissam Jaafar – President of Tawasul Organization for Youth Empowerment.
- Aziz Al-Rubaie – Journalist and President of the Baghdad Foundation for the Defense of Victims of Opinion.
The platform was managed by Dr. Alaa Al-Silawi, Professor of Law at the University of Kufa.
The platform discussed the vision of civil society with its institutions, personalities, parties, and actors towards the upcoming provincial elections, and the draft electoral law that was discussed in the presence of a number of governmental, political and academic figures and various groups of society.
The conference aims to bring together community elites and policy makers from political forces and government figures in order to mature the legal, political and administrative procedural paths for the upcoming provincial council elections in order to increase participation in the elections and ensure real social representation.
